Is a Furnace Installation Worth It?

The short answer to this question is yes, but it’s much more complicated than just a simple yes or no answer. In truth, the type of heating system you install and the success of that system is going to depend on a lot of factors, including your lifestyle, the size of your home, and the comfort preferences of you and your family. Different climates require different solutions, and for us here in Idaho, we see all four seasons and need powerful heating during the wintertime. This isn’t a hard task to complete for something like a gas furnace.

Furnaces have been around for a long time, but there are some unique factors that separate modern furnace installations in Boise, ID. For starters, furnaces are more efficient and powerful than they ever have been before. They’re smaller, more compact, and they can last up to 10–15 years keeping your home warm. We’ll explain all of these factors in detail down below!

The Perks of a Gas Furnace in 2022

In order to talk about why a gas furnace is a good purchase in 2022, we need to discuss how they work. Gas furnaces, at least the most modern and slick gas furnaces, run on natural gas. Sure, you can still find old wood burning furnaces, but they’re not nearly as efficient and are going to have trouble heating modern-sized homes.

Gas furnaces burn natural gas to heat the air in your house, which is why they’re sometimes referred to as “forced-air heaters.” They separate the air from fumes and carbon monoxide (the exhaust) and send it out of a port on the side of your home so it can be released into the atmosphere safely away from your family. Then, you get safe, affordable, and comfortable heat in your home throughout the day.

Here are some additional perks of a gas furnace.

  • High-efficiency levels in modern furnaces. Modern furnaces run at AFUE ratings (annual fuel utilization efficiency) of 90 and upwards. This means that 90% and more of the fuel entering your furnace is being turned into heat, which is good news. This means your furnace isn’t wasting nearly as much fuel as other types of heating systems might.
  • They’re powerful for the coldest winters. Gas furnaces are exceptionally powerful and work no matter how cold it gets in the winter.
  • They’re more compact than they used to be. Gas furnaces used to be large, hulking masses in the basement. Now, they’re sleek cubes that can fit in even the smallest basements.
  • Safety is always priority number one. Are you nervous that your next gas furnace might be a dangerous option? Well, gas furnaces have plenty of safety protocols within them to make sure they don’t leak gas or carbon monoxide. Sure, a neglected furnace after several years of problems could become unsafe, but gas furnaces themselves aren’t inherently dangerous. But, if you’re still concerned after all of that, you might want to think about investing in an electric furnace or a heat pump.
